Welcome to Some Fun!

Hello there and welcome to a brand new way for me to embarass myself in public…a blog! Since this is the maiden voyage, let me tell you what to expect when you visit: I have no earthly idea! As my Mom would say “It’s a hodge podge…and, Joel, take your finger out of your nose!”

Yesterday was Take Your Child to Work day and my two youngest made the trip. Harrison is ten and Samantha is 13! For those of you who have watched FirstNews since the beginning, you may recall that my wife and I also have two older sons…both in high school, now. One of them tried to make the case that he, too, should get to visit Channel Nine rather than go to class. So, at 2:00 a.m. I tried to wake him. He grunted what sounded like “Where’s my noodle soup?” I took that to mean “Thanks but no thanks.”

Samantha and Harrison had a good time with other Channel Nine kids early Thursday morning. Although, Samantha, remembering the first time she visited about ten years ago, was a little disappointed. Back then, she walked out of here with an inflatable flamingo from Maria Antonia. Don’t ask why. But, ever since, Samantha expects an inflatable flamingo. I tried standing on one foot in our front yard, but she was unimpressed.

As for Harrison, on the ride into work, he told me about one of his friends tattling on another. I asked Harrison what he had said to the “tattler.” Harrison said “Thanks Scooter Libby.” That is a fourth-grader who watched a lot of news.

Until they come to their senses and tell me to quit blogging, I hope to share information about school visits, charitable events, family stuff and, even a little weather. (This weekend, keep the rain gear handy!)

Thanks for taking time to visit. Talk to you soon here and on FirstNews.

  1. There may not be much outdoor fun this weekend but we should be real thankful for this much needed rain.

  2. I have watched you since FirstNews began and I just think you are hilarious! Keep it up! My 9 year old twin boys watch FirstNews every morning to see what the weather will be and whether or not they can wear shorts to school. I actually had to make a rule that no shorts unless Joel says it will be at least 65 degrees for the day.

  3. Love your info on weather and sense of humor.

  4. Hey Joel, you crack me up. I’ve been watching First News for as long as I can remember. I depend on you guys to get my day going. Keep up the good work!

  5. Joel,

Love your work and your blog. The only thing you really have to be embarrassed about, is misspelling “embarrass.”

  6. Sure do enjoy the show, and all the people connected with it. Have you all considered a live audience? I personally would do anything for coffee and donuts.
